SELF COMPOSED POEM ON THE LIFE OF DR. BR AMBEDKAR

GOOD FRIDAY- 29 March (Read About the Day)

When is Good Friday?

Good Friday is the Friday when Jesus Christ was crucified (attached to a cross). Jesus was ridiculed and beaten because he said that he was God’s son.

He was made to wear a crown made from thorns. He had to carry the heavy cross on which he would be crucified, to a hilltop. This is the saddest day for Christians in the year.

Jesus rose a few days later, on Easter Sunday and went to Heaven. Easter Friday is the Friday after Easter.

Why is it called “Good Friday”?

  • The word “Good” means holy in Old English, and Good Friday is also called Holy Friday.
  • Maybe the word “God” turned to “Good.”
  • Another explanation is that people believe that Jesus’s sacrifice allows for humans to also go to Heaven.

Good Friday Quotes

“On this Good Friday may we never forget the true meaning of Easter – ‘For when He was on the cross, I was on His mind.’”
-Unknown

“The cross was two pieces of dead wood; and a helpless, unresisting Man was nailed to it; yet it was mightier than the world, and triumphed, and will ever triumph over it.”
Augustus William Hare

“Good Friday marks the slaying of our Jesus. The unblemished lamb, the perfect sacrifice. He took our guilt and blame upon Himself so we could be with Him in paradise.”
-Unknown

Festival Customs

  • Churches are never decorated on this day and left dark. God is absent on this day, thus the eternal candle is not lit.
  • A cross lies alone on the altar.
  • People reenact Jesus’ painful death.

Strange Rituals

  • You cannot dance on this day in Germany.
  • Kites are flown in Bermuda to show Jesus’s journey to Heaven.
  • “Hot Cross Buns” which are fruit buns with a cross on top are eaten on this day.

NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY- 28 FEBRUARY ( KNOW ABOUT THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE DAY & THE PERSONALITY OF THE DAY- SIR C.V. RAMAN)

National Science Day is celebrated on 28 February each year to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sr. CV Raman. He was given the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 for his research on The Raman Effect. This day highlights the importance of science and its significance in our day-to-day life. The National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) popularises science in India. And so, in 1928, it was the NCSTC who proposed the idea of rewarding 28 February as the National Science Day Celebration.

Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman was born an extraordinarily intelligent child. He matured at an unusually early age. He completed his bachelor’s degree with honors in physics just at the age of 16. And published his first paper based on the diffraction of light while he was still graduating. He has won many medals and has achieved a lot of recognition. Some of his prestigious awards include:

AwardsWhich YearWhy
Curzon Research Award in 19121912He received this award while working in the Indian Finance service. This award was given during Lord Curzon’s rule
Knight Bachelor Award in 19301930His involvement in the 1929 Birthdays Honors was delayed. So, as an approval Lord Erwin conferred him with this award in the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

The Bharat Ratna Award1954He received the highest Civilian Award.
Lenin Peace Prize1957This award was given to the prominent supporters or Communists of the Soviet Union.

His most popular discovery was the Raman effect.

About The Raman Effect

The Raman Effect is the scattering of light particles by molecules of a medium. Let us understand this with an example. Why does the ocean appear blue despite the water being colourless? It’s due to the Raman effect. The sunlight consists of 7 colours – Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red (VIBGYOR). The ocean water is able to absorb green, yellow, orange, and red colours. But it scatters violet, indigo and blue. So the colourless water in the ocean appears to be blue. This phenomenon is the Raman effect.
